Arctic Therapeutics strengthens clinical research quality with SciSure
Discover how Arctic Therapeutics improved sample traceability, inventory management, and ISO 15189 compliance while saving two hours per week with SciSure.
“SciSure has significantly improved how we manage samples, inventory, and quality documentation in our lab. By centralizing these workflows, we save at least two hours per week, while also strengthening our ISO 15189 compliance. The platform makes it easy to track samples, manage CoA and SDS documentation for our reagents, and extract data for quality monitoring and reporting.

About Arctic Therapeutics

Founded in 2015, Arctic Therapeutics is a biotechnology and drug development company dedicated to uncovering the underlying mechanisms of both rare and common diseases to enable novel therapeutic approaches. Based in Iceland and supported by strong international research collaborations, the company translates scientific discovery into clinical impact.
Arctic Therapeutics advances a growing portfolio of research and development programs by combining deep biological insight with laboratory research, clinical studies and operational expertise to accelerate therapeutic discovery.
Research and laboratory operations
Arctic Therapeutics operates an ISO 15189 certified laboratory in Akureyri, Iceland, supported by clinical trial operations and office functions in Reykjavík. The laboratory team consists of approximately 10 specialists working across regulated research and clinical workflows.
Laboratory activities span a wide range of advanced techniques, including:
- Sanger sequencing
- Biomarker studies
- Proteomics
- Cell culturing
- ELISA assays
- Western blotting
Research supports multiple disease areas such as cerebral amyloid angiopathies, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and inflammatory and dermatological conditions.
Operating within a regulated quality framework, the organization maintains a certified Quality Management System covering personnel, equipment, laboratory methods, and processes, ensuring high standards of data integrity, traceability, and patient safety.
The challenge
Fragmented systems in a regulated research environment
Before implementing SciSure, Arctic Therapeutics managed laboratory operations across disconnected tools and manual processes. Experiment documentation lacked standardization, inventory was tracked across spreadsheets and paper records, and equipment logs were maintained separately.
Researchers used a mix of digital platforms and physical notebooks, making collaboration and information sharing inconsistent. Samples and reagents were not QR coded, limiting traceability, while preventive maintenance schedules were difficult to oversee centrally.
This fragmented setup created administrative burden, increased the risk of human error, and made it challenging to maintain the level of documentation required for regulated research and clinical development.
The solution
Centralizing laboratory operations with SciSure
Following implementation, SciSure became the foundation for Arctic Therapeutics’ laboratory workflows, unifying samples, inventory, equipment, and experiments in a single system.
Sample and inventory management are now tracked in real time, giving the team immediate visibility into stock levels and reagent availability. This has reduced delays in laboratory work and eliminated the need for manual inventory counting. The team estimates saving approximately two hours per week on registration and inventory processes alone.
SciSure also plays a key role in supporting ISO 15189 compliance. By centralizing experiment documentation and enabling controlled access, signing, and record locking, the platform ensures that laboratory data remains audit ready and suitable for clinical and regulatory use.
Equipment oversight has similarly improved. Calibration schedules, preventive maintenance, purchase history, and accessory tracking are now managed digitally, strengthening reliability and long term asset management.
To further standardize workflows, the team uses experiment templates and embedded protocols, particularly for clinical and assay based processes. Automated data extraction and reporting capabilities also support internal quality reviews and documentation workflows.
The results

Improved traceability, efficiency, and compliance
By digitizing and centralizing laboratory operations, Arctic Therapeutics has strengthened both operational performance and quality oversight.
Key outcomes include:
- Two hours saved weekly on sample and inventory management
- Full traceability across samples and reagents
- Digitized equipment maintenance tracking
- Reduced administrative workload
- Safer and more efficient sample handling
- Stronger ISO 15189 compliance support
The integration between equipment and eLab has been particularly helpful, for example when setting up and managing freezers, and having SciSure available on tablets in the lab makes day-to-day work more efficient. In addition, the support team has always been responsive and proactive, quickly addressing feedback and questions, which has made the overall experience very positive.”

Looking ahead
Arctic Therapeutics continues to expand its digital laboratory ecosystem. The organization is currently evaluating a transition to a Private Cloud environment, alongside deeper integration with Microsoft 365 tools and expanded labeling capabilities for sample management.
They are also exploring SciSure Health & Safety (EHS) functionality to further standardize laboratory safety and environmental processes.
